Open Street Map - Otley
I’ve been having fun with xmlstarlet and inkscape converting OSM data into something pretty.
This is the Otley portion of the area I’ve been working on. You can see that the main roads have been mapped but most of the minor roads are missing
Much of the work on this map has been completed by another Otley mapper, so I can’t claim too much credit

Track logging with a GPS is just one way to contribute - you can also map existing tracks that other's have uploaded and not mapped.
If you did want to buy a GPS, there's a page of reviewed ones (by OSM people) here

cool - i've been wanting to have a play with this stuff for awhile... i need something with a gps in though i guess.
